Help Cera Beat Breast Cancer!
By Kayla Harper
Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, I would like to address and bring attention to some issues around this brutal disease. Did you know that breast cancer patients do not profit from Pink Ribbon donations? Especially those who are terminal, stage four patients, who are essentially ignored and disregarded. They do not get any government or Pink Ribbon funding towards their treatment.
Unfortunately, my 36 year old aunt, who is also my best friend; older sister; partner in crime; ride or die; role model; and one of my favourite people ever, is battling stage four Metastatic Adenocarcinoma aka Breast Cancer. Throughout my life, I have watched this woman become an inspiration to everyone lucky enough to know her. She built her own business and education system in the esthetics industry. Through this business she provided me with my first job. She took me to my first major concert -we saw Taylor Swift in Toronto when I was 13. She was the first person to take me out to the bar. Helped me get over my first breakup and so much more. We have been on so many adventures together from nail competitions to hiking and camping, and I can’t wait to go on many more.
Something else my aunt is passionate about is travelling and seeing the world, especially the ocean which brings me to her boat. I want more than anything to watch my aunt pursue her dreams of sailing her boat and to go with her one day; and I truly do believe in miracles and believe I will watch her achieve these dreams and much more. However, we are at the point where she is willing to sell anything from her salon to her boat (if she absolutely must, which I hope she doesn’t), to afford the treatment which is her only option.
My family and I are not one’s to seek others pity or charity unless we are absolutely at our last resort. If you or anyone you know can donate to the cause please see the information below. Any help, even spreading the word so more people see this, is greatly and deeply appreciated more than any amount of gratitude will ever express.
