“Is it that sweet?” YES IT IS! Sabrina Carpenter drops new single: “Espresso”

The multi-talented singer, Sabrina Carpenter, began teasing her latest single last week with cryptic posts by herself and her team.  Along with a pre-save link to a song which no further information was revealed.  Carpenter finally announced the single, “Espresso” would be coming out April 11th, revealing the simple, but Sabrina-esque cover art.

Carpenter later revealed she would be releasing an accompanying music video the morning following the song’s release.

The track is an upbeat, catchy pop song, utilizing what the pop legend herself, Taylor Swift, would call, “Glitter Gel Pen” lyrics.  Essentially, “the drunk girl at the party who tells you that you look like an angel in the bathroom…Frivolous, carefree, bouncy, syncopated perfectly to the beat, Glitter Gel Pen lyrics don’t care if you don’t take them seriously because they don’t take themselves seriously” (Swift, Nashville Songwriter Awards, 2022).

“Espresso” is a fun and lighthearted pop-banger that doesn’t stray far from Carpenter’s classics such as, “bet u wanna”, “feather”, and “Bad Time” among others.  A track meant to be unserious and boost every girls confidence as she sings and dances along to the irresistibly addicting tune.

The music video matches the songs summer vibes that sound like a day on the beach.  Directed by Dave Meyers, it features Carpenter soaking up the sun, dancing on the beach, throwing a man off a boat (possibly a callback to the “Feather” music video), and getting arrested.

Carpenter debuted the live version of “Espresso” during her Coachella set on Friday night in which she danced around the intricate motel set accompanied by dancers.  Carpenter’s live vocals are impressive as they resemble the studio version of her songs, while maintaining a live sound.

All in all this is an exciting new era for Carpenter and her fans which are already speculating on a new album…possibly titled On Vacation as the star has mentioned and emphasized this phrase various times.  This is just speculation and not confirmed, but we are all excited to find out what is next!
