About Me
Introduction
Hi! My name is Kayla, I am an undergraduate psychology student, but my dream is to be a musician/recording artist. I have been writing songs for as long as I can remember, I was inspired to start writing songs by my Dad as he was in a band throughout most of my childhood so I was always surrounded by talented guys making music. Therefore, I learned to play guitar and piano at a young age! Additionally, I got into songwriters like Taylor Swift, Jewel and Lana Del Rey at a young age who were catalysts in my love for music and writing songs. I write them for fun, but mostly to cope with experiences and emotions I go through.
I live and breathe music. Not just do I enjoy writing songs, but I love collecting records and writing about my favourite music. I love a wide variety of genres and styles of music from Corey Taylor (Slipknot) to Taylor Swift. Some of my favourite artists include Slipknot/Stone Sour, Gracie Abrams, Twenty One Pilots, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Sevendust, Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Arctic Monkeys, Great White, Melanie Martinez, In This Moment…I’m going to stop now because this list could go on and on.
I started collecting records about five-six years ago, but have been collecting CDs most of my life because I’ve always loved owning physical formats of the music I love. I also work at my favourite local record store so I learn lots about music, records and expand my taste all the time!
I started this page as a result of another dream of mine. I was involved in the journalism program for the duration of high school where I wrote primarily music related articles and edited. Since graduating a couple of years ago, I’ve missed writing articles about the music I love as well as my opinions and thoughts on industry. I decided to start Off The Record so I could have a space to talk about whatever I wanted, whenever (primarily music of course). I blog about my collection, record collecting in general and all the different kinds of music I love. I also take a lot of requests from followers when it comes to talking about specific albums and/or artists.
I’ve loved having this website as a place where I can continue to pursue my passion of music journalism as well as document my musical journey. I created the social media accounts (which are linked on the homepage-just look for the little icons at the top) to not only promote my website, but post more about my collection and musical experiences (such as concerts), and most of all, connect with other people in the record collecting community and music lovers alike who might enjoy reading the content I post about on my blog!
Thank you for following Off The Record and being a part of my journey to achieving my dreams. It means more to me than you may know. I hope you were able to learn more about me in this little biographical article and I can’t wait to get to know more about you!
